Me

I am Dawn, founder of Coco Bombay.

I started my love affair with India in 2008 on my first trip where the country got into my soul. I returned many times traveling from the Himalayan mountains & isolated ashrams to the seaside villages & lush jungles of the southern states.

The bright textiles, mystical music, incredible jewelry & beautiful artwork was a great inspiration to me. Despite the wonderful magic of India, I was also hit hard by the way that I saw many women being treated & the shocking statistics of sex trafficking. An estimated 14 million women & children in India are trafficked, & even if they escape they are often rejected by their families.

It was my love of magical India along with the desire to empower women that gave me the drive to create Coco Bombay. Through Instagram I came across a charity that rescues women & children from sex trafficking. They were looking for someone with a small business just like me to work with, as once these women were rescued there was a huge risk of them simply being sucked back into prostitution due to a lack of opportunities. Seeing how far these incredibly brave women have come is amazing. They now smile & have light in their eyes. It is an honor to work with them.

I personally curate special fabrics & hand embroidered sarees from all across India, traveling far & wide from tiny villages to bustling markets in search of the perfect pieces. I love it as each fabric is so special & I am in love with each & everything I find!

My ultimate dream is to create a worldwide tribe of women who empower each other & make each other feel fabulous!
